In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs during the course of 6 months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music did not just draw interest back to this genre but it also brought attention to Latin music generally. In 2015 there were only two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. But during the peak of the Despacito's popularity in 2017, there were 19 mostly Spanish songs that were included in the top 100. Then in 2020 it was 41. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, famous artists started to work with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated for the track MIA MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma to record Medellin in the year 2019. The mainstreaming of reggaeton was an issue for certain performers in the year 2020. Rauw alejandro and a young generation, however, were keen to keep the look.
